Variable that affect Ranks on Google Search Engine
The main purposes of SEO is to get better ranks on Search Engine Result Pages. For diferent search engine they use diferent algorithm to index a site by certain keyword. Here i would like to focus on Google.
Google Enterprise general manager Dave Girouard says PageRank relies on more than 100 variables to decide what’s relevant, and only one of those measures link structure.
We can simple understand by learning this 100 variables we can get better rank on SERP. but unluckly, Google doesn’t publish what variables they are using. Also for businesses that buy the google search appliance, other variables are given more weight. So it will be many explanation about this variables. But according to experiences, there are some important variable is that has been proved affect for better Ranking:
- Keyword on content page : try to put keyword in your content page. but don’t put too much because it can be interpreted as spam content or duplicate content. and your site can be banned.
- Keyword on title page : always put specific keyword on title page to describe your page. more left word in title is more important than next right words on title. so try to put your keyword on as first word on title.
- Link popularity : back link from same topic of our site can give better rank for your site.
- Listing in directories : try to put as many as directories because sometimes search engine use data from directories.
- Listing on advertisement : for example site that join Pay Per Click program ( AdWords or Overture ) may put in better Rank on SERP, at least get more traffic from advertisement area.
These 4 variables probably will not change over time. another variables that can affect positively to your site rank and probably this variable may change over time depending on how the algorithm programmed :
- Keyword on domain name : for example video.com is giving better rank for keyword “video”
- Bolding keyword, such as <b> <strong> or heading tag <h1> <h2> <h3>
- Keyword on meta keyword tag ( inside <head> section )
- Keyword on meta description tag ( inside <head> section )
- Keyword on link, it can be on title, alt or link text and link url
- Keyword on images, always put text on alt and understandable name of images.
Of course we have variable that result in negative way, and most of this variables is well-known by web master and probably will not change over time :
- Using repeated keyword on your title page, keyword and description metatag, or in content page
- Using keyword that has no related with the content of your page
- Manipulation on text so the user is not aware if there is that text on the page, such as making text color same as background color, use tiny font size, etc
- Linking out to another sites that has different topic with your site
- Too many Link exchange or put your link on Free For All (FFA) sites.
So most of the variable is about keyword. Yes because it is about keyword industry. so try to defined the keyword wisely. I will post more article about optimizing your keyword.
